Château de Couzières - Two towers, remnants of a 15th-century fortress; main residence dates back to the beginning of the 17th century. Here, in 1619, Mary of Medici was reconciled with her son, Louis XIII, in the presence of the cardinal of Richelieu. Saint-Maixent church - Church tower and part of choir date from the 12th century. Vieux Bourg or Old Town - Old priory adjoining the church to the north, the Matthew cross (at the corner of rue de la Martinière and rue de l'Égalité), and the Opera district (rue de l'Égalité, 15th to 17th-century houses).
